Q: What do you do at Milburn? What are your daily responsibilities?
A: I’m an administrative assistant, or in other words, I’m the office receptionist. I just started working here in November 2019. My responsibilities include handling things like mail and other paperwork, ordering supplies, and taking care of all the little details that need to be done to keep the office running smoothly.
Q: What were you up to in your career before joining Milburn?
A: I stayed home and raised my kids for 13 years, but after that I worked a variety of jobs. I went to school to become a physical therapy assistant, but I ended up changing career paths. I worked as a bartender for a while, and then I got this job.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job? What makes Milburn different from other jobs you’ve had?
A: I love the environment I work in. I enjoy the fast pace of this industry. I also appreciate how Milburn operates like a true family — I regularly refer to the people I work with as my “work family.” Everybody takes care of everybody.
That starts with the leadership. With some bosses, they only care about what you’re contributing to the company. They’re your boss, and that’s it. Here, I can go talk to anybody if I need something. Everybody is always there to help you out. If you have a family emergency, you can go take care of it, no questions asked. Family is the most important thing to James and Don, and it shows.
I don’t have much experience in this line of work, but I’ve heard there are so many companies in this industry that don’t care about their people. That’s definitely not true here. Every single person matters at Milburn.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Mainly, I hang out with my children, R.J. and Connor. They’re both teenage boys and they both play travel hockey in a high-level league. That’s usually what my life consists of these days. Lots of hockey. If I ever get any spare time to myself, I like to spend it crafting. I also enjoy hanging out with friends and just relaxing. Nothing too crazy.
